"It all started with dinosaurs. I used to draw
them with my brother, or whales and deep-sea critters. By fifth grade I'd found I enjoyed writing too, and wrote many
short stories where I'm either being whisked away by a Jack-o-lantern man and fed to a tyrannosaur, or struggling with a giant
tongue growing off the top of my head, or turning into a bug-scout and getting skooshed. I never did anything serious with
my creativity until after high school.
I first discovered my passion for clay
in 2005 attending Green River Community College. It started as a horrendous hand-building project that accelerated out of
control, and my teacher let me forgo my wheel projects to finish it (I hated the potter's wheel). For many years now I've
worked at the studio at GRCC making monsters, learning new techniques, experimenting with the paper-clay, and basking in the
filthy process of Raku-firing.
I've established a fantasy series of
creatures, all Raku-fired. I enjoy gnarled body-structures and warped muscle and bone features. I do my best to defy proportions,
and rarely work on anything with a meaning or message. I make what I'd like – creatures with a bit of personality that
came from another world."
